The company defines these levels as Acquisition, Viewing, Intranet, and Internet. The limitations of present technology have constrained workflow by centralizing critical functions much as mainframes did with data processing. For example, CT reconstruction has always been trapped at the Acquisition level due to cost and performance limitations. Another example is the dependence on high-end workstations at the Viewing level for 3D visualization.
