XTrillion
The foundation of TeraRecon's ability to offer fast parallel backend
image reconstruction comes from the innovative HISC (Hierarchical
Instruction Set Computing) processor technology. XTrillion is a proprietary,
highly parallel, and scalable processor that is specifically designed
for fast image reconstruction. Using the XTrillion's extraordinary
speed and efficiency, TeraRecon's products use standard PC platforms
to implement reconstruction algorithms on special hardware, without
sacrificing performance.
Placing multiple processors side by side, TeraRecon uses up to 16
processors on a single PCI board, capable of CT and ultrasound image
reconstruction at rates up to 10 times faster than other existing
image reconstruction systems. An important advantage of fast reconstruction
is support for raw data storage and immediate image reconstruction
with changing parameters. Another big advantage is that the technology
has significantly advanced for acquiring and generating data, creating
higher performance needs for faster image reconstruction.
While maintaining advanced real-time data handling functions, TeraRecon's
subsystem performs all image-processing algorithms on the software
level. The architecture of this software base allows the addition
of functions, such as the integration of images obtained from diagnostic
3D image display devices on the software level, dramatically reducing
development time and cost. TeraRecon's subsystem allows augmentation
without alteration of the hardware, keeping all upgrades at the software
level.
In addition to augmenting the algorithm by software, by adding as
many XTrillion processors as needed to the system, TeraRecon can offer
completely scalable systems. This unique architecture makes TeraRecon
systems easy to customize.
